We often think we are getting forgetful, but my thought is that in 70 years, one learns and absorbs so much information, names, dates, etc that it is still up there in our brain, it just takes longer to sift through the junk and find it.
When I was 55, I hated when they asked if I was a senior and over 55. (Yes here in the states senior is often over 55). Even at home when I was 65 and I was asked if I was a senior.....I once said no and paid the full price instead.
Now yesterday I was in another Good Will type store buying something for costuming for the play and the young man behind the counter said .."Are you over 55 ..a senior....", I jumped over the counter grabbed him and kissed him and hugged him, opened my purse and gave him a $100"Well not really but I felt like it!!!!
And in a jewellry store recently, I was looking for some charms for a Christmas gift and asked the woman behind the counter more about the types and brands. I said my 16 year old grandaughter has a Pandora one and asked if these were the same. She did this big eyed look and said "WHAT, you can not have a 16 year old grandaughter, you are not old enough." Now by the stuttering and the look on her face I knew she meant it and was not just trying to make a sale. I think she may have just been blind but she meant it..... I laughed and said "Thank you for making my day..... I will be 70 in 7 months" She once again did this back off and shook her head and said NO NO NO NO.......
I am not sure what was her problem because the mirror at home that " I" look in, says....... Yep, old, wrinkled and decrepit.
Ah but it did my heart good.
So tomorrow we will celebrate Harvey hitting another milestone and be greatful for the life and health we enjoy. I am sure he will be happy to celebrate this one birthday by not having to shovel all the snow at home off the deck and driveway.
.....I hear there may be a good fairy family going out this weekend to do that if the roads are ok. I hope they get in some sledding, snowboarding etc that the snow allows too. The best Birthday gift he could get..
Harvey, Don has done your share of snow removal for the next month! Over 3 hours today with the snowblower and it's still not all done! We got a MAJOR dump in the past 24 hours! Traffic moving pretty slow in the city today.... tg
